3D Mammography

3D Mammography

3D Mammography is a specialised diagnostic tool that uses low-dose X-Rays to capture detailed images of breast tissue. It is a vital procedure for detecting and diagnosing breast conditions, including breast cancer, in their early stages. Mammograms can identify changes in breast tissue, such as small lumps or calcifications, which may not be detected during a physical examination. By facilitating early diagnosis, mammograms support proactive and effective healthcare.

FAQs

Yes, mammograms are appointment-based. Contact us by phone, visit our clinic, or submit your referral online to book a suitable time. Providing information about prior mammograms or family history can help determine your eligibility for Medicare rebates.

Minimal preparation is needed. Wear a comfortable two-piece outfit and avoid using deodorant, talcum powder, or perfume on the day of your appointment, as these can affect image quality. Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary forms.

Please bring the following:

  • Your referral form from your doctor.
  • Any prior reports or imaging relevant to your scan.
  • Your Medicare or DVA card, if applicable.

A radiographer will guide you to the examination room and explain the process. You may need to change into a gown. During the procedure, your breast tissue will be gently compressed between a flat plate and a paddle to spread the tissue evenly. This ensures clear imaging while minimising the radiation dose. Some discomfort may occur during compression, but it lasts only for a few seconds per image. Afterward, a radiologist will review the images and prepare a report for your doctor.

The cost depends on whether the mammogram qualifies for a Medicare rebate. Diagnostic mammograms often receive rebates, while screening mammograms may involve out-of-pocket costs without rebate eligibility. Our staff will provide details during booking.

Reports are typically available within 24 to 48 hours. If your doctor has requested immediate results, please inform our team, and we will prioritise the case. Urgent cases are handled with expedited reporting.
