A GP or Obstetrician may order this test to assess normal development and wellbeing not being limited to foetalheart beat, size, volume of amniotic fluid, placenta position, movements of the baby.

This scan is performed if the referring Doctor is concerned about the size of the baby, suspects a breech presentation, there is maternal unexpected bleeding, multiple pregnancy or for maternal issues such as pre-eclampsia.
